Origin Story
I spent years as a photographer building my fashion photography portfolio. I loved it and I was strating to gain more and more respect, success. But something didn't feel right, so...I stopped.
Was it self sabotage?
No, I chose to because I wasn't comfortable any more with myself contributing to an industry built upon shaming and objectifying people. I couldn't seem to swallow the shallow undertones of the industry.
Even when I worked with creative brands and unique designers (apart from a very special few) all the industry cared about was what looked good and making sure that standard changed every six months!
I was a photographer, I'm a visual person I love how things look. That's not my issue... I loved to photograph people. See their uniqueness. Express their beauty to the world. I enjoyed being different as a photographer celebrating the diversity and beauty and reality of clothes wearing humans. But it wasn't considered "high value" or commercial enough to capture diversity then. I stopped photographing fashion. Instead I started gardening and put my looks and clothes completely at the bottom of my priority list. |
I needed to do it to recover from the industry (which is very abusive) and reconnect with real, inner and natural beauty. I wore what was practical and comfortable while I was living a grounded working life.
I became more and more aware of the impact I have on the planet and I only bought or wore second hand clothes for years.
As I have healed I have reconnected with my love of clothes and how I Iook through my presentation to the world. I use my clothes now to express myself or even to help heal through colours and textures and the different feeling they provide.
For years I always wanted something different from the Fashio industry. I loved the idea of art and fashion combining to create a deeper expression. An idea was brewing in the back of my mind...
What if clothes could be practical, meaningful, intentional and emotional?
Could I honour my experience through my self presentation and be comfortable and practical?
I wanted to design clothes and other prodcts, using the healing art work I created during my recovery. I wanted to find a way of them being made to order, high quality with the production and delivery process taken care of for me.
Then I found printful and was able to combine my fashion, design, art and phogography skills to manifest a dream.
